Not a scimitar at all, but a saber. Scimitars raise to a point along the top edge, making the entire blad an elongated triangle. My first sword was a saber, too! It's a classic.

Thanks for the clarification - I remember learning the difference somewhere at the dawn of time but it didn't stick in my mind, it seems ;) I know that the only swords I had seen dancers use before that was the ornamental ones that are made for belly dance - they don't have any weapon "feel" to them so I was really glad when I found this sabre that balances perfectly from the start, and also feels like a real weapon!
