I've searched everywhere. These swords have become so popular that they are nearly impossible to find. KOA seems to always be out of stock and I don't know who else to trust. Any ideas on how to track down and capture one for myself?

Re: Elusive Cas Iberia Scimitar
Wed, April 4, 2007 - 12:33 PMI have purchased 2 Cas Iberia scimitars from www.armsofvalor.com
Search for "scimitar"
(And PLEASE, wherever you buy it, if you get a battle-ready sword be sure to take the razor-edge of the blade before you dance with it, lest it take a chunk out of you or a hapless child in your audience.)

Re: Elusive Cas Iberia Scimitar
Wed, April 4, 2007 - 1:39 PMThanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'm a little surprised how much the scimitar varies in price. Also, some places don't identify it specifically as "Cas Iberia". Any explanation? -

Re: Elusive Cas Iberia Scimitar
Fri, April 6, 2007 - 1:44 PMI got my CAs Iberia from Lisa Wylie people.tribe.net/baseema - I love this sword!
Paid $120 for it (Picked it up from her at TribalCon last year).

Re: Elusive Cas Iberia Scimitar
Sat, April 7, 2007 - 10:43 PMjust thought id throw out the inquiry on this subject -
i have 5 of these brand swords. the oldest one is of a much harder, heavier and higher quality metal. the one i purchased a few months after is slightly lighter but still a good weight. the three ive purchased in the past 6 months seem to be of much poorer quality - much lighter (almost a pound lighter it feels like), much softer metal, very little resonance (no ting), and somewhat less secure in the hilt - i plan on taking some retaining compound to them to ensure that they won't be coming loose.
has anyone else noticed the change in quality? and does anyone know of a weapons dealer who still carries the heavier/harder version of this scimitar?
i would love to get one more good quality blade. i think im going to take 2 of my newer and lighter versions and wick them for fire. -

Yes I have !! as a sword vendor I sent back the last shipment of them to CAS I felt the quality
of the sword had droped so low I couldnt resell them to the people who expected the swords that where made as little as a year ago.. The last descent CAS swordsI have seen were just about a year ago as mentioned above Lisa Wylie had them, even then they were a tad shorter and lighter than the old school CAS swords..
This is what I was told ... The people who made them could no longer keep up and or keep the doors open ..Due to the sword becoming such a high demand item The supllier searched for other people to make them and found one.. Sadly somtimes when items become such big bussines quaility goes 2nd to profit...Is this ture ?? I am not sure I heard it 2nd hand but seeeing the last shipment of CAS swords I recieved I belive it.
All I can say is if you have an Old school CAS and you love it take good care of it chances are high you will never replace it.. -

Re: Elusive Cas Iberia Scimitar
Sun, April 15, 2007 - 5:50 PMWow, thanks Riz, I wondered what was going on with the quality. The first 2 I purchased, years ago, are quite heavy, and both have a grip of leather over wood. The newer ones are only wood handles. I've been searching for another with a leather-covered handle. It really makes the grip nicely sticky.

Don't forget to dull the tip as well.. I saw a dancer stick one right through her foot with the factory tip on it..
tribal belly dancer stuck to the stage. Like a note on a corkboard it wasn't pretty...I will say it was the best improv I ever saw she did do a few moves while sworded to the stage until help came out.. -

Re: Elusive Cas Iberia Scimitar
Sun, April 15, 2007 - 5:56 PMOh wow, what sight, right through the foot...gruesome.
Yes, do file the tip as well.
I'll say, too, I still stick & cut myself once in a while, usually when trying something new or when I am tired. But the cuts are minimal.
I have a friend who's student came to a sword class without having taken the edge off (the teacher didn't know) and when the sword slipped she grabbed it right across the blade, requiring stitches down each finger, from tip all the way to palm. Owie.
I say you can't learn to do any super-cool stuff with your sword if you are in total fear of it. Respect is fine, fear is not good.

Re: Elusive Cas Iberia Scimitar
Sun, April 15, 2007 - 3:59 PMYeah, but they've been back ordered for months now. That's why I've been asking around. Thanks also for the info regarding the change in manufacturers. That may also explain the cost differences.

Re: Elusive Cas Iberia Scimitar
Fri, January 4, 2008 - 2:39 PMI came across this topic googling CAS Iberia Scimitar. Well, Jendayi dear, I don't think you have to look any further, you lucky girl you!
I've seen prices for these from US$99 to US$175. My question for you sword dealers out there - is the quality still iffy or can it be trusted? Should I wait until I can go to an event and test-feel one for myself? -

Sat, January 5, 2008 - 5:47 AMThe sword isn't mine till it's drawn blood somehow. :-P It's purely accidental mind you but once it's happened it's my sword dammit! I'll never get rid of the ones that have bit me.
