I am in love with the looks of this sword I just found:

Has anyone here tried dancing with it?

I just discovered it myself and was wondering the same. Several months back I bought a sword I fell in love with (on-line); once I received it, the love affair was over. I had to return and get a refund. It wasn't as nice in person and didn't balance worth a darn. I'm a little gun shy now but, I don't know many local vendors where I can actually put my hands on the sword. Hopefully, someone will have info on the sword. I even thought of calling Dahlal and asking...

That would be exactly my worry. It's so hard to tell from a couple of pictures what it will really feel like.

Please do call Dahlal and ask! Don't let *my* "phone phobia" slow you down!

I called Dahlal... The woman I spoke to said the sword is of good quality, fits well in the hand and has a brilliant shine! I'm hoping to purchase one soon. I figure, worse case would be for me return and get my money back should it not be as great as the picture (never mind that it must balance).

So, I ordered it (actually two of them - one for me in silver, one for my teacher in gold). Ordering was easy and my order was shipped pretty fast (5 business days) and they look great!

They're small - perfect for a short-limbed person like me. They'd look like little dirks on Sabine! (That's diRks, mind you - short swords/long daggers!). There's a nice little symmetrical scroll design right over the balance point - very nice. When you look at it close-hand, it's obviously a "fake" sword - the blade and hilt are all one piece, the balancing edge is thick, and the "cutting" edge is dull. From a distance it looks like a serviceable blade. My silver one is pretty shiny; the gold one is shiny but the "carving" is a little darker (I might try to darken mine). There's a ring on the hilt where you could easily hang a tassel or something else fairly lightweight, or use it to hang on the wall.

Of course I couldn't wait to put one (or two) on my head, and they seem to balance nicely. I haven't had a chance to really dance with them yet (too much LIFE happening right now), but the balance seems good, I can do some real sword-like movements while holding the hilt (since there's no hand guard, not like my Sarroyan wannabe sword), and like I said for me it's short enough that I can Indian arms/figure 8s while balancing them on my fingertips, Sabine's cup and thread move, etc. For a shortie like me, that's a great advantage! If you're looking for a big honkin' chop-their-head-off scimitar, this is not it. But if you're looking for a slightly more unusual sword (at least for now!), this seems pretty good!

Have you tried dancing with this sword, yet? I am looking into buying one. I am pretty new to sword dancing and have a dragon sword now, but I am not sure its a great fit for me. Its big and heavy and I am a petite person! Plus I have to fiddle with it a lot to get it to stop leaning! Would this sword be ok for a beginner?

      Thanks!

I've *played* with it, but I haven't tried really dancing with it much.

I'd think that it would be a very good sword for a beginner because the balancing edge is SO flat. I'm not even sure you'd get that "divot" in your head we all have. And like I mentioned before, it's a nice small size for us petites.

The only thing I'd change with my review so far is that the ring on the handle should probably not be used to hold the sword while you're moving. It seems fine hanging in my closet by that ring, but for the brief time I walked around with it clipped to a belt, the ring bent enough for it to slip off the clip.
