i have a set of copper scimitars to do double swords with . . . . .and i let them get tarnished. shame on me!!!!! anyway, once i use all this elbow grease to get them shiny again what is the best thing to put on them to keep them that way.

and a seconde question while i'm here. what is the best way to dull an edge without damaging the look of a sword.

thanks

Always keep the sword coated with a thin layer of rust resistant oil. You can pick this up from any knife store or hunting supply company. You don’t need to get a big bottle of it either as a little goes a long way. I get mine from a local company called AG Russel Knives.

To sharpen it, you draw it across something harder at an angle. To dull it, just hold it vertical and draw it back and forth across something really hard, like polished granite or a steel car bumper. If it makes a mark on the surface, find something harder. After you have it a bit flat, you might need a few more strokes at a slight angle to smooth out any side edge that might have developed.

thanks . .. new sword is being delivered tomorrow and wanted to take it to Triboriginal for the sword workshop there (though taking my old one just in case this one takes some getting use to) . . . .

You can also use a metal file or sharpening stone to dull as well as sharpen. Definitely taking it across the top. You can also use a light coating of wax on the blades ot keep 'em shiny . . . just not on your balance point : )
